The Future of Arrows & Icons

It’s hard to believe that we’re already launching! It seems like so long ago that we started planning this thing, and now here we are, finally coming to fruition and realizing how much more we have yet to do! As you’ll no doubt be able to see, the site in its present form is pretty bare. While it may look a little sparse now, things will start to fill in over the next few months. Here are some things you can look forward to in coming phases:

New Sections

Firm Directory

We’re collecting information — name, location, website, expertise, etc. — about environmental design firms (or those that practice EGD alongside other disciplines) around the world. If you’d like to be featured send us an email with your information and a primary contact and we’ll get it up.

Resources

This will be a section providing links to notable related design blogs, recommended reading list and list of specialty book stores, tools and other business resources.

Industry News

We try to keep up with the latest industry news and relay it to our followers via Twitter, but we’d like to pull the most interesting and useful news through a dedicated website section. You’ll see we already have a feed running through the sidebar, so this will be an extension of that.

Monetized Areas

Classified Section

In an effort to further promote our industry neighbors — and raise a little revenue to help keep the magazine going — we will be offering a classified area for businesses to place ads for goods and services for a minimal monthly fee.

Job Board

Also for a small monthly fee, companies will be able to post listings for current job openings. We’ll do our best to promote any interested job openings we find via the Industry News section, but this is a sure way to be seen.

Advertising

We’ll soon be opening up advertising subscriptions for companies related to the EGD field to post banner ads for their sites and services.

Information Pages

Colophon

Once the dust settles after our initial launch, we’ll be going through everything and listing out the people, products and services that made the magazine possible. We’ll even detail how some of the features were built.

Get Connected

With so much time spent getting the magazine ready, our social media accounts have been sadly neglected. We’ll be listing out where we are on the web so you can continue to connect with us.

Contribute

As I said, there will be many contribution opportunities, and this is where we plan to list out how you can get involved and where to direct your inquiries.

Additional Connectivity

Facebook

Our Facebook page is also pretty bare, but this will soon be more closely tied into the site, will feature some original, exclusive content and allow newsletter signups.

Twitter

Our Twitter feed is currently running on the site, don’t forget to follow us for additional content and links to some pretty interesting stuff.

Email Newsletter

Many of you have signed up for our newsletter, dubbed The Program, and we plan to standardize this after the launch announcements go out. This will be a bi-monthly mailing, so you can expect to receive between 5–8 a year. Each issue will feature original content, links to current issue content, site updates and notable additions to the classifieds and job board.

Daily Inspiration Blog

What good is a design blog without some sort of inspiration? We’re developing a daily inspiration tumblelog to post pictures of great design work, either found by us or submitted by readers.

Event Calendar

We’re tapping Google Calendar to publish a list of EGD related events around the country. You’ll be able to see what’s happening where and download an event to add to your own personal calendar.

Flickr

Also in the plan is a Flickr account and group where readers can contribute images of their work for everyone to see and gain inspiration from.

Hopefully that will whet your palate a little! There will be many opportunities for reader involvement and user-generated content, so stay tuned to see the new features and new ways you can get involved!
